In the mission to deliver continuous and better results on company's or organization's performance, strategic thinking companies and organizations drive their businesses with project teams in order to draw maximum benefits from the capabilities of their human resource asset. The potential and the promise of rapid improvement in output arising from the adoption of project team strategy in the implementation of projects are so large that it has become a pleasing idea to employ in the overall interest of corporate success.
In the implementation of this strategy, it is very important to continuously sharpen the skills of project managers or personnel charged with the responsibility to drive the mission of businesses and organizations in every area of their operation. The ultimate result is to enable the human resource team to achieve desired outcomes through exposure to the application of project planning and implementation principles and techniques which are expected to optimise the contributions of the whole members of the project team.
It is in acknowledgement of the critical role which planning play in the successful implementation of projects, that the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation-PEP Africa has put together a team of experts to facilitate a two-day workshop on PROJECT MANAGEMENT: PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION TECHNIQUES from August 28- 29, 2007, at Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Km 12/13 Abakaliki Expressway, Emene Industrial Layout, Enugu State.
THE ORGANIZERS
THE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (MAN), is the umbrella body and the voice of manufacturers in Nigeria. The membership of MAN is over 2000 companies engaged in 74 different sub-sectors of the manufacturing industry in Nigeria. MAN is the foremost manufacturing industry-specific capacity building membership Association offering cutting-edge training courses in Nigeria.
THE INTERNATIONAL FINANCE CORPORATION (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is an international organization whose mission is to promote sustainable private sector investment in developing countries, helping to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. IFC supports private sector development both by investing and by providing advisory services that build businesses. The IFC Private Enterprise Partnership for Africa (IFC- PEP Africa), a donor funded facility, was established in 2005 to stimulate private sector growth. IFC -PEP Africa establishes partnership with donors, governments and the private sector to design and deliver technical assistance programs and advisory services that:
- Improve the investment climate
- Mobilize private sector investment
- Enhance the competitiveness of small-and medium-sized business
SME Entrepreneurship Development Initiative ("SME EDI"), a program of IFC-PEP AFRICA delivers capacity building products and services to Small and Medium Enterprises ("SME"s), namely:
- Assistance to enable SMEs to access finance from Financial Institutions.
- Enterprise Support Service that address weaknesses in enterprises in such areas as Organization, Management and Operations systems design and improvement.
- Skills Development products that build the capacity of entrepreneurs and enterprises through training programme.
BENEFITS OF ATTENDING:
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Construct a work breakdown structure from approved project plan; define the summary of tasks, sub-tasks necessary for the project; and fix appropriate time lines for the entire project.
- Manage cross-functional projects, building a high performance team from diverse functional areas and achieving expected standards across all sectors concerned.
- Assess risks to the project through laid down contingency strategies
- Initiate negotiation sessions with stakeholders.
COURSE CONTENTS
- Planning a project
- Assessing projects; identifying key stakeholders; and highlighting expected outcomes
- Planning and scheduling the project
- Tracking project activities, problems and solutions
- Defining the unknown: Networks and critical path analysis
- Estimating and scheduling resources
- Designing project team structures that match accountability with the required outcomes
- Developing detailed workflow system, training and process requirements for the project
- Project execution: Timescales and achievements

- Project communication: Reports and presentations
- Budgetary Controls and Financial Management
- Estimating project costs and schedules using simple techniques
- Reconciling benchmarks and performance indicators.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is ideal for project managers, project consultants, finance consultants and any senior manager or professional with the responsibility to manage or assist in the management of projects.
TRAINING METHODOLOGY:
The course will seek to achieve its objectives through the use of a blend of experiential and participative training methods and techniques.

COURSE FEE:
The course fee of N=15,000 per participant, is subsidized by IFC as support to capacity building for SMEs. The amount is payable by cheque to the following account name: "Manufacturers Association of Nigeria"
